Cassian Andor

❝I believe you. Some of us—most of us—we’ve all done terrible things on behalf of the Rebellion. Spies, saboteurs, assassins. Everything I did, I did for the Rebellion. And every time I walked away from something I wanted to forget, I told myself it was for a cause that I believed in, a cause that was worth it. Without that, we’re lost. Everything we’ve done would’ve been for nothing. I couldn’t face myself if I gave up now.
// You made this decision long ago. The Empire cannot win. You'll never feel right unless you're doing what you can to stop them.
You're coming home to yourself. // Welcome home.❞
❝War must be, while we defend our lives against a destroyer who would devour all; but I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend. …
It must often be so… when things are in danger: some one has to give them up, lose them, so that others may keep them.❞

History
We don't all get the luxury of deciding when and where we want to care about something. I've been in this fight since I was six years old. You're not the only one who lost everything. Some of us just decided to do something about it. ~ Rogue One
Whoever Kassa's birth parents were, all Human settlers of Kenari over the age of 16 were killed by the "Natural" Disaster that left a city-sized crater on the face of the world. The orphans developed their own community and survived. Kassa learned from this that you couldn't wait for others to save you; you had to save each other.
The day a Republic corsair fell from the sky, a pair of scavengers, Maarva and Clem Andor, found him trying to tear the ship apart with his bare nine-year-old hands. A reckoning would come between them and Cassian, whether they'd saved him from the subsequent Republic salvage (which they did), or whether they'd kidnapped him (which…?). He certainly never saw his Kenari family again. Leaving his sister might be the biggest regret of his life. That tension lasted for years, during which Cassian repeatedly ran away to various insurrectionist cells. Maarva and Clem kept unconditionally taking him back, and Cassian came to love them too.
Clem was lynched by Stormtroopers when Cassian was thirteen. Cassian attacked the 'troopers and was sent to an Imperial youth center [prison]. He got out at sixteen and was conscripted but deserted for other anarchist groups. More and more, Cassian saw those groups being used by their enemies, often fooled into fighting themselves. His disillusionment grew until he gave up. He returned home and became a smuggler.
In this state, Luthen Rael headhunted him for the Rebellion. On his first mission, Cassian's intelligence, powers of observation, and wide range of experience made him invaluable. Still, he resisted the call, only to wind up arrested on a fatuous charge and imprisoned, again, as de facto slave labor. He organized a prison break—his same strategy of getting people to save one another.
Maarva died in his absence, and her funeral sparked an uprising. Cassian returned in time to save his friends. Then he found Luthen again, and went from the disaffected, fuck-the-universe small-town smuggler to one of the best and brightest true believers of the Rebellion. He was extremely talented at his work, not just against the Empire, but in giving allies and recruits a new sense of purpose and hope.
Personality
Even in the children's colony, he was never feral; he was faithful and collaborative. He wouldn't blame anyone else for making him a weapon. He made it of himself, with his own intelligence, skills, courage, talent, and rage.
His mouth seems permanently downcast, but when he smiles, it upturns the world. This is a vestige of should-have-been. If not for warfare, this man would not have been violent. He would have been someone warm, maybe funny. That possibility was squashed almost immediately but never quite killed, and that's what made him an incredible recruiter, a commander people followed to a suicide mission, and a true believer—someone who "came home to himself" by his belief in a greater cause. Because no matter how grim or cold he’s able to seem, or believe himself to be, his ultimate conviction comes out of dedication to people and belief in them saving one another.
Abilities
₪ Spec. op.s: espionage, covert op.s, sabotage, assassination, recruitment
₪ Combat: armed and unarmed
₪ Piloting: trained for multiple crafts and can figure out most he's set into
₪ Sniper (though he's trained for blasters, not projectile weapons—and intends to keep avoiding them)
₪ Speaks Galactic Basic Standard [Space English], Alarin, Myo, and Nari. He lost Kenari from disuse but remembers some expletives. Reads Aurebesh &c.; will learn to read English.
₪ Quick study: very effective with mnemonic devices, keen observation, and critical thinking to memorize information and learn systems on the spot.
Initial Inventory
₪ His old tunic that he's worn for the last five days straight, now sporting scorch marks where Krennic shot him, and blood from the abrasions where he hit the durasteel beam. Plus sweat and sand. He needs a shower.
₪ A stolen pair of Imperial uniform trousers, which he will be intensely keen to get the hell rid of, probably burn.
₪ A stolen pair of Imperial uniform boots, knee-high. Never waste good boots, but he'll probably look to give them away ASAP to someone the Empire would hate.
₪ Skivvies (grey) and socks (black) that he's likewise worn for the last five days. He really needs to shower.

His world ended when he met Jyn Erso. In a matter of days, he disobeyed orders; chose to keep her alive and with him after she ceased to be the mission—even became a liability; and he ultimately rebelled against the Rebellion. —rather, the Council turned against the Rebellion, Jyn became where the Rebellion truly led. Either way… he would choose her. Even if he could, he wouldn't go back to who he was before her.
city relationships
Unsurprisingly: Jyn Erso. More TBD
